Local Government Reorganisation ON HOLD
The government has announced a review of some Local Government Reorganisation decisions, including the decision related to the creation of four unitary authorities in Hertfordshire.
As part of this announcement, the government has confirmed that Local authorities will continue with their usual cycle of local elections for May 2027.

Local Government Reorganisation for Hertfordshire
On 16 July 2026, the government announced its decision on Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) in Hertfordshire, confirming it will create four new unitary councils, subject to parliamentary approval.
This means that from 1 April 2028 new authorities will take over responsibility for delivering the services currently provided by the county council and the district and borough councils in that area.

Speed Management in Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire County Council is updating the Speed Management Strategy which provides a consistent approach to setting speed limits in Hertfordshire.
HCC wants to hear your views on current speed limits in the county, as well as the processes to follow for setting new speed limits. Please take part in this survey that should take around 5-10 minutes to complete.
